Clearing a loved one's home with care
When someone close to you dies, emptying their home can feel overwhelming. There are practical deadlines – council tax, a landlord or a house sale – alongside the emotional weight of going through a lifetime of belongings. Our bereavement house clearance service is designed to make that easier.
We listen first. Before we start, we talk through what matters to you: the items the family wants to keep, anything that should go to a particular relative or charity, and how involved you would like to be.
How we look after you
- No rush. We work to your timetable. If you need a few weeks before the clearance, that is fine.
- Personal items set aside. We look carefully through drawers, cupboards, books and pockets for photos, letters, documents, jewellery and cash, and keep them safe for you.
- Kept informed. If you live away or cannot face being there, we keep you updated by phone or message and can send photos as we go.
- Treated with respect. Your loved one's belongings are handled carefully, and as much as possible is passed on to charities and reuse projects.
Family first, then everything else
Many families like to walk round the house first and choose what to keep. Others ask us to box up anything that looks personal so they can go through it later, somewhere more comfortable. Either way works. We can deliver kept items to a family member's address within our area.
Working with executors and solicitors
If the estate is going through probate, we can work directly with the executor, solicitor or estate agent, and provide a written quote and invoice for the estate's records. See our probate house clearance page for more detail.
A fixed price, agreed before we start
We visit or arrange a video call, look at the property and give one clear price. There are no hidden extras on the day. Learn more about how a clearance works, or call us for a gentle, no-pressure chat.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to photographs and personal papers?
They are always set aside for the family. We check drawers, books, bags and boxes as we go and hand everything personal back to you, or deliver it to an address you choose.
Can family members take items before you clear the house?
Of course. We recommend the family chooses what they want first. Tell us what is staying and we will clear around it.
Can you donate my relative's furniture to charity?
Yes. Good-condition furniture and household items go to local charities and reuse projects wherever they can accept them. Let us know if there is a charity your relative supported.
